Roy Williams is my least favorite Cowboy. And it's not because he is a safety who can't defend the pass or that I find him to be one of the most overrated players in all of football. It's simply that I think he is a cheater. This isn't a steroid accusation - so he doesn't cheat in the modern sense of the word. But the man had a rule CREATED because of him, and he still breaks it. It would be like if Lou Gehrig failed to recognize the disease that took on his name.
I am of course referring to the horse-collar tackle that Williams made famous when he broke, now current teammate, Terrell Owens' leg in 2004. The NFL instituted the rule that said a tackler cannot take down an opponent by grabbing onto the inside of an opposing players shoulder pads. Williams has broken this rule repeatedly since then and has been penalized for it on occasion. The NFL even fined him $15,000 once.
And now the league has finally stepped up and done the right thing - even though it pains me to say it as a Cowboys fan: They suspended Roy Williams for this Sunday's game against the Panthers as punishment for tackling Donovan McNabb by the pads in last weeks 10-6 loss to the Eagles.
I hope Williams finally has learned his lesson - which he apparently hasn't given that he filed an appeal. Nonetheless at least the league has started to enforce the punishment of this dirty rule. It will hurt the Cowboys on the field this Sunday, but the league is better off because of it.

Dallas has signed Tony Romo to the richest contract in franchise history - 6 years, 67.5 million dollars. That's a big chunk of change, but he is worth every penny. This eventually was going to become a distraction. At some point, there will be a bump in the road - possibly an imminent one with three straight division games looming. And now, there is no question who will be the Cowboys quarterback for years to come. There can be no more ridiculous rumblings about a benching during the Buffalo game. The rumors of him bolting to Chicago at the end of the season can now be laid to rest.
Now the only rumors we will have to deal with involve sightings with Brittney Spears. He actually had to field a question about this at the press conference announcing his contract. Jerry Jones deadpanned after Romo skirted the issue "I'll say one thing about that Tony...Sometimes they can smell fresh money."
This is the way the Cowboys operate - Big time players, big time personalities, and big time stories. But remember, those are the distractions that are worth having. And now we have the quarterback who will lead the team through the distractions for years to come.
